Tips For Weight Loss

In a column this week for Health Magazine, fitness guru Holly Mitchell provided her best weight-loss tips for long-term health and fitness goals. Here are some tips that will help get you off of your ass and up and moving.

Join a fitness class

Finding the right class can increase your confidence in your ability to keep up with workouts.

Fitness Class

However, the right class might be one you've never tried. Smaller classes with more personal attention will be a great start. Take classes that utilize the elements of aerobic exercise.

Exercise in the morning to counteract the effects of coffee and light snacks that stick with you throughout the day. When you exercise at least five times per week you'll improve your blood sugar and your energy levels.

Feeling weak from blood sugar swings will start to fade as you make your way through the day.

Knowing that your body is taking in the right nutrients will keep you healthy. I bet you are so sick of hearing that you would just never do it. Well, that doesn't work for healthy people who don't want to feel bad about themselves. Find a good class near you and get started.

Fuel before and after workouts

Nutrition is a key component to feeling strong and healthy. If you don't fuel properly before you work out, you might find yourself regretting an afternoon workout that leaves you huffing and puffing for more than an hour.

An easy way to boost your metabolism is to start each morning with a cup of coffee. When I do cardio, I get a protein shake on my way out of the gym. Even if you don't have time for a full-bodied meal, you'll still get a kick out of mixing a high-protein smoothie with a cup of granola, a tablespoon of peanut butter, and a handful of raw almonds.

An extra scoop of oats, a tablespoon of peanut butter, and a cup of skim milk will give you more than enough nutrition to last you for an entire day.

Work your muscles

With your energy running on empty, it's tough to find the energy to work out. But after you get your heart pumping and your muscles contracting, your body will actually thank you.

If you really want to jump start your workouts, try a quick yoga session. Some exercises are easy for beginners and some for advanced. If you can only do ten minutes or less, try yoga. Yoga is full of exercises that create full muscles and can help you lose weight.

You won't have to spend months working out and perfecting the perfect pose. Just work a few yoga poses into your routine every day and see how it changes your body. Even 10 minutes of yoga can help your body feel full and strong.

Make friends with fresh fruit

That diet fruit is good, but if you want to lose weight, make friends with fresh fruit. Instead of bagging the plastic fruit on your way out the door, pick up the ripe fruit that has fallen on the ground.

Then you'll have an easy snack that will help you feel better about your workout. While you are at it, make a smoothie and get the fiber. Fresh fruits will give you more vitamins and minerals to get you healthy.

Eating fresh fruit will help you feel full and allow you to take in more nutrition before you workout. An extra scoop of spinach or fresh strawberries, maybe a handful of spinach or strawberries, and a spoonful of peanut butter will give you a healthy dose of protein and nutrient packed whole fruit.
